Soda buyback event in BX

​On Saturday, the Alliance for a Healthier New York and Healthcare Education Project held a soda buyback event at Richard R. Green Middle School in the Bronx to support the soda tax and to encourage residents to make healthier food choices.

Residents were able to trade in cans of soda at Richard Green Middle School for vouchers for healthier food options like fruits and vegetables.

The Alliance for a Healthier New York says more than 60 percent of adults in the Bronx are overweight or obese. The group hopes the program will raise awareness about the high rates of obesity and rally support behind a proposed tax on sugary drinks.
