CHALK - Choosing Healthy Active Lifestye for Kids
Stephanie Pitsirilos-Boquín, MPH, is the Program Manager of CHALK (Choosing Healthy Active LIfestyle for Kids) and the Vive tu Vida/Live Your LIfe Campaign. CHALK is a collaboration between Community Pediatrics of New York - Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and the community. The goals of CHALK are to reduce over time the prevalence of childhood obesity and related health crises in Northern Manhattan, and to create an environment in which healthy lifestyles are central to the life of all children.
CHALK sponsors the community-based Vive tu Vida/Live Your Life campaign which promotes healthy, active lifestyles for kids while identifying barriers and resources to healthy living. Vive tu Vida has participated in events sponsored by the Healthcare Education Project by providing educational kits that promote healthy living and conducting healthy activities. They have also displayed their continued support of HEP by sharing information about HEP"s campaigns around healthcare issues.
Ms. Pitsirilos-Boquín, a native New Yorker, holds a Masters degree in Public Health in Population and Family Health from Columbia University. She has taken CHALK's goals from paper to community with local, state and federal recognition. She is concerned about the health issues surrounding the Washington Heights/Inwood community and is dedicated to bringing about change that will produce a healthier community. HEP celebrates Ms. Pitsirilos-Boquín and CHALK for helping children matture into healhty adults.
