State of the State Includes Medicaid Redesign Team
On January 5, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his inaugural State of the State Address.
The Governor outlined a far-reaching plan for reforming New York State Government, including a new Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) charged with finding savings in the Medicaid program equal to the amount of savings the Governor will call for his Executive Budget, which he will release by February 1.
The Healthcare Education Project applauds Governor Cuomo's commitment to fundamentally restructure the State's Medicaid program and strongly supports his plan to reduce costs through program redesigns rather than traditional reimbursement cuts. Without question, that is the best way to reduce Medicaid costs without comprising health care quality and access to care.
We are honored that leaders of GNYHA and 1199 SEIU will serve on this team and pledge our commitment to working with all stakeholders to develop solutions that improve care while reducing costs.
